The Invention

Rodaspecs are a technology I invented for unique viewing experiences of reflective surfaces and otherwise invisible artworks. Unlike conventional polarized sunglasses — where both lenses are fixed — Rodaspecs allow each lens to be rotated independently. This lets a viewer fine-tune the polarization angle of each eye individually, unlocking effects that no fixed-lens eyewear can achieve.

The system is also modular: lenses can be swapped out with ease, allowing for different filter types or custom configurations depending on the artwork or environment.

Why it matters

Polarized light is used in a wide range of artistic and scientific contexts. Certain materials — particular plastics, crystals, birefringent films — rotate polarized light by wavelength, producing vivid color from what appears colorless under normal viewing. Rodaspecs transform the viewer into an active part of the optical system rather than a passive observer.
